Majlis Complex Al Ain – UAE

– Location: Al Ain, UAE

– Service: Architectural Design

– Area: 15000 m2

– Client: Ministry of Presidential Affairs

– Description:

A competition entry for a Majlis Complex in Al Ain City in Abu Dhabi Emirate (UAE). The entry submission had two alternatives with two different approaches. The design consists of three main spaces: the main hall, the Majlis and the dining hall aside from the supporting services. The two alternatives dealt with these main spaces in different ways. The first alternative consists of three main masses governed by two intersecting axis which mark the main circulation through the project. The second alternative had an orthogonal oriented design, where the functions are identified clearly by the combination of rectangular and circular masses. Both alternatives were sensitive to the regional architecture of UAE, thus having an islamic architecture. However, with the manipulation of the designs a sense of contemporary character has been added to the building. As a result, two lavish designs suitable for representing the government and welcoming their visitors has been developed.
