University Island Competition
Location: Venice - Italy
Year of Design: 2016

The competition focused on the revitalization of an abandoned island in Venice, incorporating the existing heritage buildings into a new university and research center, with the goal of transforming the site into an educational landmark within the Venetian Lagoon.

Our design approach celebrates the historic buildings, preserving and repurposing them as open-air museums that connect visitors to Venice’s rich cultural heritage. The new educational spaces are conceived as a modern bridge structure, elevated to offer views of both the heritage plaza and the surrounding buildings, creating a dynamic interaction between the old and the new. This approach not only respects the site’s history but also enhances its future as a center for learning and research.
